Creating children’s books is an old family tradition. My father made a book for me and each of my siblings  on our third birthday. He also made one for each of his grandchildren. These books were always simple and spontaneous, made from whatever materials he had handy, cardboard, mat board, even linoleum scraps. I still have mine, about my favorite color, yellow.

When my first grandchild was born, I decided to keep this tradition going. I used the “paint” program on an old Compac computer to create the drawings with a mouse. It took some practice, but I became fairly proficient with this medium. Over the years I made many books, some are traditional folk songs that I illustrated, some are stories I wrote.

In early 2017 I decided to have one of my books published. The book, The Three Secrets, is the story of a seed that journeys through the trials and joys of life to become a sunflower. I like to think of the story as a simple answer to the profound question, What is the meaning of life? (Or maybe it is a profound answer to the simple question!)
